This November, we welcome Park YeonTae, one of Korea's leading contemporary ceramic artists, for a rare 3-day masterclass on Buncheong ware and the tradition of the moon jar. About The Artist: Park YeonTae was designated Mungyeong City Ceramic Master No. 6 in 2024 and holds a Korean patent for his method of producing black-fired teapots using traditional earthenware techniques. He earned his MFA in Ceramics from Dankook University and has spent over two decades developing a body of work that bridges Korean clay heritage with modern design. His pieces have been shown in Paris, London, Sydney, Düsseldorf, and New York, and are held in collections including the Gyeonggi Ceramic Museum and the China Tea Leaf Museum. He currently serves as President of the Korea Tea Ware Masters Association. Class Content: The course covers the moon jar: its characteristics, and a live demonstration of the forming process by Park YeonTae himself, working at a scale rarely seen outside Korea. It also covers Buncheong ware: its main characteristics, forming and trimming a piece on the wheel, and instruction in a specific decorative technique to finish it. By the end of the course, each participant will have created a moon jar and up to three smaller Buncheong-inspired pieces, ready to be fired. Experience Level: This course is designed for experienced wheel throwers. You should be confident centering 1 to 2kg of clay on your own, since moon jars are technically demanding and the pace of the course doesn't allow time to build up centering skills from scratch.
